GABRQ

Description

The GABRQ (gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit theta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit theta is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GABRQ gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the GABAA receptor. The ΞΈ subunit has highest sequence similarity with the Ξ²1 subunit. This subunit coassembles with: Ξ±2, Ξ²1, and Ξ³1; Ξ±3 and Ξ²1; Ξ±3, Ξ²1, and Ξ΅.

GABA, the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, facilitates neuronal inhibition by binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening an associated chloride channel.

GABRQ is also known as THETA.
