ZNRF2


Description

The ZNRF2 (zinc and ring finger 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

ZNRF2 acts as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase, playing a crucial role in establishing and maintaining neuronal transmission and plasticity. It ubiquitinates the Na(+)/K(+) ATPase alpha-1 subunit (ATP1A1), influencing its endocytosis and/or degradation. Furthermore, ZNRF2 acts as a positive regulator of mTORC1 activation by amino acids, operating upstream of the V-ATPase and Rag-GTPases. Phosphorylation by mTOR leads to ZNRF2 inhibition through targeting to the cytosol, creating a self-regulating feedback mechanism.

ZNRF2 is also known as RNF202.
