ZNF568

Description

The ZNF568 (zinc finger protein 568) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

ZNF568 acts as a transcriptional repressor, partially through interaction with the corepressor TRIM28, but also independently. It plays a vital role in embryonic development, directly repressing placental-specific IGF2 transcripts during early development. Additionally, it regulates convergent extension movements necessary for axis elongation and tissue morphogenesis across all germ layers. ZNF568 is also crucial for the normal development of extraembryonic tissues, including the yolk sac, extraembryonic mesoderm, and placenta. It may potentially enhance the proliferation or maintenance of neural stem cells.

ZNF568 is also known as ZFP568.
