ZNF410

Description

The ZNF410 (zinc finger protein 410) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

ZNF410 is a transcription factor that binds to the DNA sequence 5‘-CATCCCATAATA-3‘. It is required to silence expression of fetal hemoglobin in adult erythroid cells. ZNF410 directly activates CHD4, a central component of the NuRD complex, which represses transcription of fetal hemoglobin genes HBG1 and HBG2. ZNF410 may also activate transcription of matrix-remodeling genes like MMP1 during fibroblast senescence and the gap junction gene GJC1 in response to increasing glucose. However, recent evidence suggests that ZNF410 primarily regulates the expression of a single gene: CHD4.

ZNF410 is also known as APA-1, APA1.
