ZMYND11
Description
The ZMYND11 (zinc finger MYND-type containing 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.
ZMYND11 is a protein encoded by the ZMYND11 gene in humans. It was initially identified for its ability to bind the adenovirus E1A protein. ZMYND11 localizes to the nucleus and functions as a transcriptional repressor. E1A expression inhibits this repression. ZMYND11 has been shown to interact with BMPR1A, C11orf30, ETS2, and TAB1. Alternative splicing of the ZMYND11 gene results in different isoforms.
ZMYND11 is a chromatin reader that specifically binds to histone H3.3 trimethylated at lysine 36 (H3.3K36me3) and regulates RNA polymerase II elongation. It does not bind to other histone H3 subtypes (H3.1 or H3.2). ZMYND11 colocalizes with highly expressed genes and acts as a transcription corepressor by modulating RNA polymerase II during the elongation stage. It also binds non-specifically to double-stranded DNA. ZMYND11 acts as a tumor suppressor by repressing a transcriptional program essential for tumor cell growth.
