ZDHHC8

Description

The ZDHHC8 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

ZDHHC8 is a putative palmitoyltransferase enzyme containing a DHHC domain that in humans is encoded by the ZDHHC8 gene.

ZDHHC8 is a palmitoyltransferase that attaches palmitate to various proteins, impacting multiple cellular processes. It regulates the localization and function of ABCA1, a transporter involved in cholesterol and phospholipid efflux, by palmitoylating it. ZDHHC8 may also palmitoylate the D(2) dopamine receptor, affecting its stability and plasma membrane localization. The protein could contribute to glutamatergic transmission.

ZDHHC8 is also known as DHHC8, ZDHHCL1, ZNF378.
