ZDHHC3

Description

The ZDHHC3 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

ZDHHC3 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ZDHHC3 gene that contains a DHHC domain. It is a palmitoyltransferase that catalyzes the addition of palmitate to various protein substrates.

ZDHHC3 is a Golgi-localized palmitoyltransferase that adds palmitate to various protein substrates, including G protein-coupled receptors, integrins, TNFRSF10A, GABA(A) receptors, GAP43, NCDN, PRCD, NCAM1, DNAJC5, DLG4, SNAP25, glutamate receptors GRIA1 and GRIA2, the D(2) dopamine receptor DRD2, LAMTOR1, TLR9, and possibly CALHM1 and CALHM3. It exhibits a lack of stringent fatty acid selectivity and can transfer myristate and stearate to target proteins as well. ZDHHC3 plays a crucial role in G protein-coupled receptor signaling, cell adhesion, apoptotic signaling, synaptic function, and the regulation of protein localization and trafficking. It can exist as a monomer or form homooligomers, with the monomeric form showing greater catalytic activity. It also forms heterooligomers with ZDHHC7. ZDHHC3 interacts with TNFRSF10A.

ZDHHC3 is also known as DHHC-3, DHHC3, GODZ, ZNF373.
