Description

The ZC3HC1 (zinc finger C3HC-type containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

ZC3HC1, also known as NIPA, is a protein encoded by the ZC3HC1 gene on chromosome 7. It is found in many tissues and exclusively localized to the nucleus. NIPA is a component of the SCFNIPA ubiquitin E3 ligase complex, which regulates the transition into mitosis. The ZC3HC1 gene has been linked to an increased risk of coronary artery disease. The gene has 14 exons and encodes a 60-kDa protein with a C3HC-type zinc finger and an F-box-like region. A region at its C-terminal acts as the nuclear translocation signal, and another region is proposed to be a phosphotyrosine-binding domain. NIPA's phosphorylation at specific serine residues inactivates the SCFNIPA complex. NIPA is most abundant in heart, skeletal muscle, and testis.
