ZC3H4

Description

The ZC3H4 (zinc finger CCCH-type containing 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

ZC3H4 is an RNA-binding protein that suppresses the transcription of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). LncRNAs are transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that are not translated into proteins. ZC3H4, in collaboration with WDR82, forms part of a transcription termination checkpoint. This checkpoint promotes the termination of lncRNA transcription and their subsequent degradation by the exosome. The transcription termination checkpoint is activated by the inefficient splicing of the first exon of lncRNAs.

ZC3H4 is also known as C19orf7.
