YEATS4

Description

The YEATS4 (YEATS domain containing 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

YEATS4 acts as a chromatin reader, recognizing and binding specific modifications on histone H3. It preferentially binds to histone H3 diacetylated at Lys-18 and Lys-27 (H3K18ac and H3K27ac) or diacetylated at Lys-14 and Lys-27 (H3K14ac and H3K27ac). It also recognizes crotonylated histone H3 and potentially succinylated histone H3 at Lys-122 (H3K122succ), although further in vivo evidence is needed. YEATS4 plays a crucial role in the deposition of histone variant H2AZ1/H2A.Z into specific chromatin regions, particularly on promoters of actively transcribed genes marked by H3K14ac and H3K27ac. It recruits the NuA4-related complex, facilitating the deposition of H2AZ1/H2A.Z, which is essential for maintaining embryonic stem cell identity.

YEATS4 is also known as 4930573H17Rik, B230215M10Rik, GAS41, NUBI-1, YAF9.
