WDR18

Description

The WDR18 (WD repeat domain 18) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

WDR18 is a protein encoded by the WDR18 gene in humans. It belongs to the WD repeat protein family, characterized by conserved regions that facilitate protein complex formation. WDR18 is involved in various cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, signal transduction, apoptosis, and gene regulation. It forms a nucleolar complex called the rixosome with LAS1L, PELP1, and TEX10, which is involved in RNA degradation. The rixosome associates with the 60S preribosomal subunit and is thought to contribute to the establishment of repressive chromatin structures by degrading nascent RNA.

WDR18 functions as a component of the Five Friends of Methylated CHTOP (5FMC) complex, which is recruited to ZNF148 by methylated CHTOP. This recruitment leads to desumoylation of ZNF148, resulting in the transactivation of ZNF148 target genes. WDR18 is also a component of the PELP1 complex, involved in the nucleolar steps of 28S rRNA maturation and the subsequent nucleoplasmic transit of the pre-60S ribosomal subunit. Additionally, WDR18 may play a role during development.

WDR18 is also known as Ipi3, R32184_1.
