VPREB3

Description

The VPREB3 (V-set pre-B cell surrogate light chain 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Pre-B lymphocyte protein 3 is a protein encoded by the VPREB3 gene in humans. It is the human homologue of the mouse VpreB3 protein and is specifically expressed in B-lymphocyte differentiation stages. It is related to VPREB1 and other immunoglobulin supergene family members. VPREB3 associates with membrane mu heavy chains during early pre-B cell receptor biosynthesis. Its precise function is unknown, but it might contribute to mu chain transport in pre-B cells. Besides bone marrow and secondary lymphoid tissues (tonsils), VPREB3 is present in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum and the adrenal zona glomerulosa.

VPREB3 is also known as 8HS20, N27C7-2.
