ULBP2

Description

The ULBP2 (UL16 binding protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

ULBP2 is a cell surface glycoprotein encoded by the ULBP2 gene located on chromosome 6. It is related to MHC class I molecules but lacks the α3 domain and transmembrane segment. ULBP2 is linked to the cell membrane by a GPI anchor. It functions as a stress-induced ligand for the NKG2D killer activation receptor on natural killer cells.

ULBP2 binds to and activates the KLRK1/NKG2D receptor on natural killer cells, triggering their cytotoxic activity.

ULBP2 is also known as ALCAN-alpha, N2DL2, NKG2DL2, RAET1H, RAET1L.
