UGT2B15

Description

The UGT2B15 (UDP glucuronosyltransferase family 2 member B15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 2B15 is an enzyme encoded by the UGT2B15 gene in humans. UGTs are essential for conjugating and eliminating potentially toxic xenobiotics and endogenous compounds. UGT2B8 demonstrates reactivity with estriol.

UGT2B15 catalyzes phase II biotransformation reactions by conjugating lipophilic substrates with glucuronic acid, increasing their water solubility for excretion through urine or bile. This is essential for eliminating and detoxifying drugs, xenobiotics, and endogenous compounds. It glucuronidates endogenous steroid hormones like androgens (testosterone, androsterone) and estrogens (estradiol, epiestradiol, estriol, catechol estrogens). UGT2B15 also glucuronidates various xenobiotic substrates, including phenolic compounds (eugenol, 4-nitrophenol, 4-hydroxybiphenyl) and phenylpropanoids (naringenin, coumarins). Additionally, it glucuronidates monoterpenoid alcohols such as borneol, menthol, and isomenthol, which are natural compounds found in essential oils.

UGT2B15 is also known as HLUG4, UDPGT 2B8, UDPGT2B15, UDPGTH3, UGT2B8.
