UGT2B10

Description

The UGT2B10 (UDP glucuronosyltransferase family 2 member B10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

The UGT2B10 gene, found in humans, instructs the production of the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 2B10 enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for adding a molecule called glucuronic acid to nicotine and cotinine, two substances found in tobacco smoke. This process, known as glucuronidation, helps to eliminate these substances from the body.

UGT2B10 plays a crucial role in the detoxification process by attaching glucuronic acid to various substances, including harmful foreign chemicals (xenobiotics) and naturally occurring compounds within the body, facilitating their elimination.

UGT2B10 is also known as UDPGT2B10.
