UGGT2

Description

The UGGT2 (UDP-glucose glycoprotein glucosyltransferase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

UGGT2 identifies glycoproteins with subtle misfolding issues. It attaches a glucose molecule to specific N-glycans near the flawed region of the protein, essentially acting as a quality control mechanism for proper protein folding within the endoplasmic reticulum. These reglucosylated proteins are then recognized by calreticulin, facilitating their return to the endoplasmic reticulum for either refolding or ultimate degradation.

UGGT2 is also known as HUGT2, UGCGL2, UGT2.
