UBTD1

Description

The UBTD1 (ubiquitin domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

UBTD1 is believed to play a role in regulating cellular senescence, a process that limits cell division. It does this by interacting with TP53, a key protein in cell cycle control, in a positive feedback loop. This means that UBTD1 can increase the activity of TP53, which then in turn leads to higher levels of UBTD1. Additionally, UBTD1 acts as a TP53 downstream target gene, meaning that TP53 activates the production of UBTD1. This activation is important for stabilizing TP53 itself, as UBTD1 promotes the breakdown of MDM2, a protein that normally targets TP53 for degradation. By removing MDM2, UBTD1 helps ensure that TP53 remains active and able to regulate cell growth.
