TUBG1

Description

The TUBG1 (tubulin gamma 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

Tubulin, gamma 1 is a protein in humans that is encoded by the TUBG1 gene. This gene encodes a member of the tubulin superfamily. The encoded protein localizes to the centrosome where it binds to microtubules as part of a complex referred to as the gamma-tubulin ring complex. The protein mediates microtubule nucleation and is required for microtubule formation and progression of the cell cycle.

Tubulin gamma-1 chain, also known as Gamma-1-tubulin, is a key component of microtubule organizing centers (MTOCs), including the spindle poles and the centrosome. It acts as a pericentriolar matrix component, regulating the nucleation of alpha/beta tubulin chains at the minus-end of microtubules. This protein is critical for centrosome duplication and spindle formation, ensuring proper cell division.

TUBG1 is also known as CDCBM4, GCP-1, TUBG, TUBGCP1.
