TUBB4B

Description

The TUBB4B (tubulin beta 4B class IVb) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

TUBB4B, a beta-tubulin subunit, is a key component of microtubules. Microtubules are cylindrical structures built from linear protofilaments composed of alpha- and beta-tubulin heterodimers. These microtubules grow by the addition of GTP-bound tubulin dimers to their ends, creating a stabilizing cap. Below this cap, the tubulin dimers switch to a GDP-bound state due to the GTPase activity of alpha-tubulin.

TUBB4B is also known as Beta2, LCAEOD, TUBB2, TUBB2C.
