TUBA1B

Description

The TUBA1B (tubulin alpha 1b) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

TUBA1B is a gene that encodes the protein Tubulin alpha-1B chain. This protein interacts with PIK3R1. Antibodies against Tubulin alpha 1b can be used as markers for microtubules and spindles.

Tubulin, a key protein found in microtubules, forms cylinders made up of linear protofilaments. These protofilaments are composed of alpha- and beta-tubulin heterodimers. Microtubules grow by adding GTP-tubulin dimers to their ends, where a stabilizing cap forms. Below this cap, tubulin dimers bind GDP due to the GTPase activity of alpha-tubulin.

TUBA1B is also known as K-ALPHA-1.
