TTLL11

Description

The TTLL11 (tubulin tyrosine ligase like 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

TTLL11 is a polyglutamylase that modifies tubulin by adding polyglutamate side chains of varying lengths to specific glutamate residues in the C-terminal tail of tubulin. It prefers to elongate existing polyglutamate chains rather than initiating the process, and it primarily targets the alpha-tubulin tail. TTLL11 is essential for the proper localization of CCSAP to both spindle and cilia microtubules, and it promotes tubulin polyglutamylation, which in turn stimulates microtubule severing by the protein spastin. This regulatory role of TTLL11 ultimately contributes to overall microtubule function.

TTLL11 is also known as C9orf148, C9orf20, TTLL11-IT1, bA244O19.1.
