TTF1

Description

The TTF1 (transcription termination factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Transcription termination factor 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TTF1 gene.

TTF1, a multifunctional nucleolar protein, plays a crucial role in regulating ribosomal RNA (rRNA) synthesis. It terminates transcription of ribosomal genes, prevents uncontrolled replication by arresting replication forks, and fine-tunes RNA polymerase I activity on chromatin. TTF1 exhibits a dual regulatory effect on rDNA, contributing to both activation and silencing of rDNA transcription. Importantly, its interaction with the protein BAZ2A/TIP5 restores its DNA-binding ability, highlighting a vital aspect of its function.

TTF1 is also known as TTF-1, TTF-I.
