TRPS1 : transcriptional repressor GATA binding 1

Description

The TRPS1 (transcriptional repressor GATA binding 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

The TRPS1 gene provides instructions for producing a protein that regulates the activity of numerous other genes. This protein, located within the cell nucleus, interacts with specific regions of DNA to suppress gene activity, earning it the designation of a transcription factor. Research indicates that the TRPS1 protein plays a role in regulating genes that control the growth of bone and cartilage, a flexible and resilient tissue crucial for skeletal development during early stages.

TRPS1 acts as a transcriptional repressor, specifically binding to GATA sequences and suppressing the expression of genes regulated by GATA factors during specific developmental stages in vertebrates. This protein plays a critical role in controlling the proliferation and differentiation of chondrocytes, the cells that make up cartilage. Within proliferating chondrocytes, TRPS1 performs multiple functions: it expands the region of distal chondrocytes, stimulates proliferation in columnar cells, and supports the transition of columnar chondrocytes into hypertrophic chondrocytes.

TRPS1 is also known as GC79, LGCR.
