TRMT61B

Description

The TRMT61B (tRNA methyltransferase 61B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

TRMT61B is a methyltransferase that modifies tRNA and mRNA. It catalyzes the formation of N(1)-methyladenine at position 58 (m1A58) in various tRNAs in the mitochondrion, including tRNA(Leu), tRNA(Lys), and tRNA(Ser). It also catalyzes the formation of 1-methyladenosine at position 947 of mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA. This modification is likely important for mitoribosomal structure and function. Additionally, TRMT61B acts as a mRNA N(1)-methyltransferase by mediating methylation of adenosine residues at the N(1) position of MT-ND5 mRNA, leading to interference with mitochondrial translation.

TRMT61B is also known as -.
