TRMT6

Description

The TRMT6 (tRNA methyltransferase 6 non-catalytic subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

TRMT6 is a substrate-binding subunit of tRNA (adenine-N(1)-)-methyltransferase, responsible for catalyzing the formation of N(1)-methyladenine at position 58 (m1A58) in initiator methionyl-tRNA. It also plays a role in mRNA methylation, forming a complex with TRMT61A, a catalytic subunit, to methylate adenosine residues at the N(1) position of a small subset of mRNAs. This methylation occurs in tRNA T-loop-like structures of mRNAs and is present at low stoichiometries.

TRMT6 is also known as CGI-09, GCD10, Gcd10p, TRM6.
