TRMT2B

Description

The TRMT2B (tRNA methyltransferase 2 homolog B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

TRMT2B is a mitochondrial S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of 5-methyl-uridine (m5U) in tRNAs and 12S rRNA. It specifically methylates uridine at position 54 (m5U54) in all tRNAs and position 429 (m5U429) in 12S rRNA. TRMT2B does not impact RNA stability or mitochondrial translation.

TRMT2B is also known as CXorf34, dJ341D10.3.
