The TNRC6B (trinucleotide repeat containing adaptor 6B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.
The Trinucleotide repeat-containing gene 6B protein (TNRC6B) is a protein encoded by the TNRC6B gene in humans. It interacts with EIF2C2 and associates with argonaute proteins. TNRC6B is required for miRNA-guided gene silencing in HeLa cells.
TNRC6B plays a key role in RNA-mediated gene silencing, utilizing both micro-RNAs (miRNAs) and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs). It is essential for miRNA-dependent translational repression and siRNA-dependent endonucleolytic cleavage of complementary mRNAs, facilitated by argonaute family proteins. TNRC6B acts as a scaffolding protein, associating with argonaute proteins bound to partially complementary mRNAs. It simultaneously recruits CCR4-NOT and PAN deadenylase complexes.
