TNNI2 : troponin I2, fast skeletal type

Description

The TNNI2 (troponin I2, fast skeletal type) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The TNNI2 gene provides instructions for creating one form of troponin I, a protein found in skeletal muscles. Troponin I is part of the troponin complex, which works with calcium to control muscle contraction. This complex sits within the sarcomere, the fundamental unit of muscle contraction, where thick and thin filaments interact. When calcium levels are low, the troponin complex blocks the binding between these filaments, preventing muscle contraction. However, increased calcium levels induce structural changes in the complex, exposing binding sites and allowing the filaments to interact, leading to muscle contraction.

TNNI2 is also known as AMCD2B, DA2B, DA2B1, FSSV, fsTnI.
