TNNC2

Description

The TNNC2 (troponin C2, fast skeletal type) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

Troponin C, skeletal muscle is a protein encoded by the TNNC2 gene in humans. It's a subunit of the troponin complex, a key regulator of striated muscle contraction. The troponin complex consists of three subunits: TnI (inhibits actomyosin ATPase), TnT (binds tropomyosin and TnC), and TnC (binds calcium). Troponin C, encoded by the TNNC2 gene, is responsible for binding calcium and overcoming the inhibitory action of the complex on actin thin filaments, ultimately enabling muscle contraction.

TNNC2 is also known as CFAP85, CMYO15, CMYP15, FAP85, MYONRI.
