TNFAIP8L3

Description

The TNFAIP8L3 (TNF alpha induced protein 8 like 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

TNFAIP8L3 acts as a lipid transfer protein, preferentially capturing and shuttling two lipid second messengers, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) and phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PIP3), leading to increased levels of these lipids in the plasma membrane. It can also function as a lipid-presenting protein to enhance the activity of the PI3K-AKT and MEK-ERK pathways. This suggests a role for TNFAIP8L3 in regulating tumorigenesis by modulating phospholipid signaling.

TNFAIP8L3 is also known as TIPE3.
