TMOD2

Description

The TMOD2 (tropomodulin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Tropomodulin 2 (neuronal), also known as TMOD2, is a protein encoded by the TMOD2 gene in humans. It belongs to the tropomodulin family of actin-regulatory proteins and is specifically found in neurons. TMOD2 caps the pointed end of actin filaments, preventing their growth and disassembly. This capping activity is dependent on its association with tropomyosin. Different isoforms of TMOD2 are produced through alternative splicing.

TMOD2 prevents the growth and disassembly of actin filaments at their pointed end. Together with tropomyosin, TMOD2 forms a complex that contributes to the formation of short actin filaments, which ultimately shape the membrane skeleton.

TMOD2 is also known as N-TMOD, NTMOD.
