TMEM39B

Description

The TMEM39B (transmembrane protein 39B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

TMEM39B is a multi-pass membrane protein with eight transmembrane domains, located on the plasma membrane and vesicles. Its precise function is unknown, but it is linked to B cell lymphoma survival, autophagy regulation in Sindbis virus-infected cells, and interaction with the SARS-CoV-2 ORF9C protein. It is expressed moderately in most tissues, with higher levels in the testis, placenta, white blood cells, adrenal gland, thymus, and fetal brain.

Gene The TMEM39B gene is located on chromosome 1p35.2, spanning 30.8 kb from 32,072,031 to 32,102,866. It contains 14 exons and is flanked by KHDRBS1 and KPNA6. It also includes the MIR5585 microRNA-encoding gene.

Transcript There are four validated transcript variants of TMEM39B, produced through different promoters and alternative splicing.
