TMEM131

Description

The TMEM131 (transmembrane protein 131) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

TMEM131 is a protein encoded by the TMEM131 gene in humans. It contains three domains of unknown function 3651 (DUF3651) and two transmembrane domains. TMEM131 has been implicated in T cell function and development. It is located on chromosome 2 and is associated with Nievergelt's Syndrome when deleted.

Role in T Cell Function

TMEM131 has been shown to be hypermethylated in patients with Down Syndrome, suggesting a possible role in the suppressed immune function observed in these patients. It is up-regulated during T cell development and differentiation and is highly expressed in T cells compared to other tissues.

Gene

  • Overview

TMEM131 is located on the negative DNA strand of chromosome 2. Its gene product is a 6,657 base pair mRNA with 41 predicted exons. Ensembl predicts ten alternative splice forms, four of which are protein coding.

TMEM131 is also known as CC28, PRO1048, RW1, YR-23.
