TMED3

Description

The TMED3 (transmembrane p24 trafficking protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

The p24 protein family comprises transmembrane proteins crucial for COPI and COPII-coated vesicles, essential components of the cellular machinery responsible for protein transport. This family, also referred to as EMP24/GP25L/p24 or TMP21-like proteins, plays a vital role in trafficking between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus. While all p24 family proteins can be removed in yeast with only mild consequences, some, like p24δ1, are crucial for mammalian survival. These proteins are involved in the formation of COPI and COPII-coated vesicles, transporting membrane-bound proteins through the secretory system, and shaping the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. Most p24 family proteins are ubiquitously expressed in various tissues.

TMED3 is also known as C15orf22, P24B, p24g4, p24gamma4, p26.
