TMCC1

Description

The TMCC1 (transmembrane and coiled-coil domain family 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

TMCC1 is a protein found in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It plays a role in the process of endosome fission, where endosomes, small compartments involved in sorting cellular material, split into smaller vesicles. TMCC1 promotes this fission by bringing the ER closer to the endosomes. This process is crucial for sorting cellular material into two pathways: one leading to degradation in lysosomes, the other leading to recycling back to the cell surface.
