TMBIM6

Description

The TMBIM6 (transmembrane BAX inhibitor motif containing 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

TMBIM6 acts as a suppressor of apoptosis, modulating the unfolded protein response signaling pathway. It regulates ER calcium homeostasis by functioning as a calcium-leak channel. Additionally, it negatively regulates autophagy and autophagosome formation, particularly during nutrient deprivation, leading to reduced cell survival under starvation conditions.

TMBIM6 is also known as BAXI1, BI-1, TEGT.
