TIAM1
Description
The TIAM1 (TIAM Rac1 associated GEF 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.
TIAM1, encoded by the TIAM1 gene, is a protein tightly associated with BAIAP2. It possesses a DH (DBL-homology) domain, a PDZ domain, two PH domains, and a Ras-binding RBD domain. TIAM1 regulates the activity of Rho GTP-binding proteins, linking extracellular signals to cytoskeletal functions. It activates Rac1, CDC42, and to a lesser extent RhoA. TIAM1 is found in various tumor cell lines, including lymphomas, neuroblastomas, melanomas, and carcinomas. It interacts with proteins such as ANK1, Myc, RAC1, PPP1R9B, para-cingulin, and others, playing roles in cell adhesion and signaling.
TIAM1 acts as a guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor, activating Rho-like proteins (RAC1, CDC42, and RHOA) and linking extracellular signals to cytoskeletal functions. This activation regulates cellular processes such as adhesion and migration.
