TGIF2

Description

The TGIF2 (TGFB induced factor homeobox 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

TGIF2 is a protein encoded by the TGIF2 gene in humans. It acts as a DNA-binding homeobox protein and a transcriptional repressor. TGIF2 represses transcription by recruiting histone deacetylases to TGF beta-responsive genes. It has been found to be amplified and overexpressed in some ovarian cancers, and mutations in the TGIF2 gene can cause holoprosencephaly.

TGIF2 is a transcriptional repressor that inhibits gene expression by either directly binding to the DNA sequence 5'-CTGTCAA-3' or by interacting with SMAD proteins activated by TGF-beta. This repression likely occurs through the recruitment of histone deacetylase proteins.

TGIF2 is also known as -.
