TFB1M

Description

The TFB1M (transcription factor B1, mitochondrial) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

TFB1M is a mitochondrial enzyme encoded by the TFB1M gene. It functions as a mitochondrial methyltransferase, using S-adenosyl methionine to dimethylate two conserved adenosine residues at the 3'-end of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA. This methylation is crucial for regulating the assembly or stability of the small subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome. Additionally, TFB1M has been shown to stimulate transcription in vitro using recombinant mitochondrial RNA polymerase and TFAM. However, there is no experimental evidence demonstrating this function in vivo. The paralogous TFB2M is more specific for this role.

TFB1M is also known as CGI-75, CGI75, mtTFB, mtTFB1.
