TFAP4

Description

The TFAP4 (transcription factor AP-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

TFAP4, also known as Transcription factor AP-4 or Activating enhancer binding protein 4, is a protein encoded by the TFAP4 gene in humans. It belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors, which bind to the E-box sequence in the promoters of their target genes. TFAP4 can act as both a repressor and an activator for different target genes.

TFAP4 activates both viral and cellular genes by binding to the symmetrical DNA sequence 5'-CAGCTG-3'.

TFAP4 is also known as AP-4, bHLHc41.
