TEX19

Description

The TEX19 (testis expressed 19) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

TEX19 is a protein encoded by the TEX19 gene in humans.

TEX19 is crucial for both spermatogenesis and placenta development. It plays a key role in suppressing the activity of retrotransposable elements, preventing their uncontrolled movement within the genome. TEX19 achieves this by working alongside the Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway, which is known to silence transposons during meiosis. TEX19 directly interacts with Piwi proteins and binds to piRNAs, small RNA molecules that target transposons. Furthermore, during spermatogenesis, TEX19 cooperates with the UBR2 protein to promote the accumulation of SPO11-dependent recombination foci, ultimately driving proper pairing of chromosomes. TEX19 also interacts with LIRE1, a protein encoded by the LINE-1 retrotransposon. This interaction leads to the ubiquitination and degradation of LIRE1, effectively inhibiting the mobility of LINE-1 retrotransposons.

TEX19 is also known as -.
