TECTB

Description

The TECTB (tectorin beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Beta-tectorin is a protein encoded by the TECTB gene in humans. It's one of the key components of the tectorial membrane, a structure in the cochlea responsible for sound perception. This protein, along with alpha-tectorin, forms the non-collagenous part of the tectorial membrane.

Beta-tectorin is a crucial component of the tectorial membrane, an extracellular matrix within the inner ear. This membrane covers the sensory hair cells of the cochlea and plays a vital role in sound perception. When sound waves travel through the ear, they cause the hair cells to move in relation to the tectorial membrane, bending their stereocilia. This bending triggers changes in the hair cell's membrane potential, converting sound energy into electrical signals that are sent to the brain.
