TCF23

Description

The TCF23 (transcription factor 23) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

TCF23 acts as an inhibitor of myogenesis by blocking the binding and activation of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors at E-box DNA sequences. Its inhibitory mechanism resembles that of ID proteins, preventing the formation of functional homodimers and heterodimers of TCF3 and MYOD1. TCF23 lacks DNA binding capability itself, indicating its function relies entirely on interfering with other transcription factor complexes.

TCF23 is also known as OUT, TCF-23, bHLHa24.
