TCEAL1

Description

The TCEAL1 (transcription elongation factor A like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

The TCEAL1 gene in humans encodes a protein belonging to the Transcription elongation factor A (SII)-like (TCEAL) gene family. These proteins are likely nuclear phosphoproteins that influence gene transcription depending on the promoter context. The TCEAL1 protein shares similarities with transcription elongation factor A/transcription factor SII and has a zinc finger-like motif, as well as a region related to the transcription factor SII Pol II-binding region. It's suggested that TCEAL1 exerts its effects by interacting with other proteins involved in gene regulation, rather than directly binding to DNA. Multiple members of this gene family are located on the X chromosome. Alternative splicing leads to different versions of the TCEAL1 gene, all producing the same protein.

TCEAL1 is also known as HIJRS, NEDGFAX, SIIR, WEX9, p21, pp21.
