TCEA1

Description

The TCEA1 (transcription elongation factor A1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

TCEA1 (Transcription Elongation Factor A protein 1) is a human gene that encodes a protein involved in transcription elongation. In other organisms, this gene is known as TFIIS (Transcription Elongation Factor II S). Its primary function is to resolve stalled transcription complexes by inducing a cut in the active site of RNA polymerase (RNAP), allowing the transcription process to resume. TCEA1 is also found in the eukaryotic transcription preinitiation complex. An analogous protein in archaea performs a similar function, while bacteria utilize a non-homologous protein called Gre.

TCEA1 is also known as GTF2S, SII, TCEA, TF2S, TFIIS.
