TBX22


Description

The TBX22 (T-box transcription factor 22) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

TBX22 is a protein encoded by the TBX22 gene in humans. It belongs to a family of proteins with a conserved DNA-binding domain called the T-box. These proteins are involved in regulating developmental processes. Mutations in TBX22 are linked to X-linked cleft palate with ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) and non-syndromic cleft palate in some populations, highlighting its role in palatogenesis. TBX22 is located on the long arm of the X chromosome (Xq21.1) and consists of seven exons spanning 8.7 kilobases of genomic DNA. Its mRNA is 2099 base pairs long and encodes a 400-amino-acid protein with a unique T-domain in its NH2-terminal region, missing 20 amino acids compared to other known T-domains.
