TAS2R4

Description

The TAS2R4 (taste 2 receptor member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The TAS2R4 gene is a member of the taste receptor family and encodes a protein involved in bitter taste perception. It belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily and is specifically expressed by taste receptor cells in the tongue and palate. The gene is clustered with other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7 and is associated with variations in bitter perception. Variations in the TAS2R4 and TAS2R5 genes, which prevent the expression of these receptors, have been linked to the distribution of tannin sorghum and a destructive bird pest in Africa, suggesting a role for human taste in shaping agricultural ecosystems.

TAS2R4 is also known as T2R4.
