TAS2R3

Description

The TAS2R3 (taste 2 receptor member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

TAS2R3 is a gene responsible for producing a protein that acts as a bitter taste receptor. It belongs to a family of taste receptors that are found in taste cells on the tongue and palate. This receptor protein has seven transmembrane regions and is linked to the perception of bitterness. It is located on chromosome 7, clustered with other taste receptor genes, and has been associated with bitterness perception. The only known ligand for TAS2R3 is chloroquine.

T2R3 acts as a taste receptor, detecting bitter compounds in the mouth and digestive system. It triggers a signaling pathway involving PLCB2 and the calcium-sensitive ion channel TRPM5.

TAS2R3 is also known as T2R3.
