TAS2R1

Description

The TAS2R1 (taste 2 receptor member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

TAS2R1 (also known as T2R1) is a protein encoded by the TAS2R1 gene in humans. It belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and is involved in bitter taste perception. TAS2R1 is one of 25 known human bitter taste receptors. It is expressed in taste receptor cells, which are located in taste buds on the tongue and palate. In addition to its role in taste, TAS2R1 has been found to be expressed in extra-oral tissues such as the brain, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. Research suggests that TAS2R1 may be involved in the relaxation of airway smooth muscles. Furthermore, TAS2R1, along with several other taste receptors, has been found to be downregulated in breast cancer cells.

TAS2R1 is also known as T2R1, TRB7.
