Description

The TACC3 (transforming acidic coiled-coil containing protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

TACC3, or Transforming acidic coiled-coil-containing protein 3, is a protein encoded by the TACC3 gene in humans. While its specific function is unknown, it is speculated to be involved in cell growth and differentiation. TACC3 gene expression is elevated in some cancer cell lines and during embryonic development in mice.

TACC3 plays a crucial role in the connection of the nucleus and the centrosome via microtubules. It's involved in the regulation of centrosome-mediated interkinetic nuclear migration (INM) in neural progenitors. As a part of the TACC3/ch-TOG/clathrin complex, it helps stabilize the kinetochore fibers of the mitotic spindle by acting as a bridge between microtubules. This complex is essential for maintaining the tension in kinetochore fibers. TACC3 may contribute to cell growth, differentiation, and potentially cancer development.
